Executive Summary
Ibnsina Pharma is considered one of the largest pharmaceutical and cosmetics logistics organizations in Egypt.
Ibnsina Pharma’s core service is the distribution of pharmaceutical and cosmetics products from hundreds of manufacturers and suppliers to pharmacies around the republic of Egypt, and is considered one of the 2022’s strongest fifty companies in Egypt according to Forbes magazine.
The challenge
In the client’s cloud journey of modernization, they were looking to create a .NET application running on their premises and engaged with through a determined set of handheld devices. The Transportation System Management application in hand was to be used by the company’s transportation personnel for managing tips, shipping, drop-offs, and other logistic workloads.
Security was the main challenge for the client, as it contained the company’s sensitive logistics data. And so, they needed to host the application on a highly secure, non-public environment for their .NET application. Ensuring the safety of data used by their transportation teams. The whole application had to have maximum security and to be accessed through their private tunnel to Site-to-site VPN tunnel to AWS.
EC2 for Windows
Since both security and performance were the defining factor in this project, Ibnsina’s choice was Amazon EC2 for Microsoft Windows Server Delivery Partners as their integration choice as it both highly secure and scalable. EC2 was perfect for their large logistics operations, and integrates seamlessly with their windows-based environment.

Amazon EC2: Security, Scalability, and Elasticity
We started with installing a Windows Server machine as a private subnet EC2 instance in order to host the .NET application, followed up by installing Microsoft’s Internet Information Services (IIS) and .NET application runtimes, along with an RDS Microsoft SQL database managed on an internal subnet.
We created a VPN tunnel between the client’s on-prem server and AWS services, allowing the handheld devices used by the transportation team to access the client’s network, then AWS connecting directly to a Window’s Server Machine that we prepared beforehand.
As shown in the diagram below, the transportation teams will heavily use the APN handheld devices to connect to Ibnsina’s .NET application and manage their logistics operations conveniently and effortlessly.
